Abstract (english): The transition to the secondary school has been supposed as a special break of the school biography that is associated with changes in well-being. Characteristics of the type of school that are discussed to moderate the effect of the secondary school include tracking as well as curricula and social composition. The current study compares the development of children during the immediate transition from primary school to the two types of secondary school in the restructured Berlin school system (Gymnasium, Integrierte Sekundarschule) on their school and general well-being. In order to isolate the effects of school intake and the school context propensity score matching analyses were implemented. Overall, a transition effect emerged. Despite a higher well-being before the transition, pupils who transition to Gymnasium showed a decrease in well-being. Contrary, pupils who transition to ISS showed hardly no changes. (DIPF/Orig.)
