ShaReD – Sharing and Reusing Data

In the cooperation "Sharing and Reusing Data" (ShaReD), people from data infrastructures and educational research at the DIPF are working across departments to make research data more easily accessible to science and to make available data more usable.

The aim of the cooperation is to promote cultural change in educational research towards open science and FAIR data. FAIR stands for Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable. Accordingly, research data should be described and made available in such a way that it can be easily found by potential users, is as accessible as possible without restrictions and can be processed in the long term using common programmes and standards. The data should also be reusable by potential users.

Provision of Research Data for Educational Research and Promotion of the Use of Available Data

Educational research data in Germany is made accessible via qualified data centres. The German Network of Educational Research Data (VerbundFDB) supports data providers in their search for suitable data centres and provides archiving options together with the partner research data centres. The data centre FDZ Bildung affiliated with the DIPF offers archiving options for selected data and instruments.

In addition, ShaReD provides data with special reuse potential and increased processing effort and actively supports the use of the data. To this end, the data is described in detail and support is provided for working with the data, for example through targeted information, tools, workshops and contact persons.

Metaprojects also reflect on subsequent use scenarios in order to increase future use potential and to address basic practical research questions relating to the secondary use of research data.

Activities take place in four data areas:

  • education statistics
  • historical education research data
  • log and process data
  • videos of teaching lessons

In addition, a structured process to support research data management will be established for DIPF staff.

FDB Committee

The Research Data Education Committee (FDB Committee) coordinates the cross-departmental activities of ShaReD and facilitates a professional exchange of innovative ideas, processes and results. The committee consists of representatives from all DIPF departments. The head of the committee and its representatives take part in the meetings of the partners of the VerbundFDB network in order to closely coordinate the activities at the DIPF and the development of the infrastructures.

The FDB Committee is a participatory body. For this reason, guests who are involved in the implementation of the tasks regularly take part in the meetings.
