About

The BBF | Research Library for the History of Education makes several text editions freely available for research on its platform EditionenBildungsgeschichte. The texts, selected for their relevance to educational history, are edited according to the guidelines of the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI), which guarantees long-term usability. The online presentation allows full-text searching, is indexed by person and year, and is constantly being expanded with additional features. The platform currently contains two large editions of letters as well as the diary of a Berlin schoolgirl from her school trip to the Giant Mountains in 1901, which is kept in the BBF archive.

The complete edition of the letters of the founder of kindergartens, Friedrich Fröbel (1782–1852), most of whose papers are held in the BBF archive, provides a detailed insight into the life and work of Fröbel. It consists of well over 1,800 letters.

The correspondence between the pedagogue and philosopher Eduard Spranger (1882–1963) and his long-time confidante Käthe Hadlich (1872–1960) comprises more than 4,500 letters and postcards and dates from 1903 to 1960. Spranger is regarded as one of the most prominent representatives of humanistic pedagogy. The correspondence covers all topics and areas of Spranger's life and can be considered a kind of diary due to its scope and specificness.
