Campus Schools Frankfurt
How can educational researchers, school practitioners and (initial) teacher training in Frankfurt and the surrounding area collaborate and benefit from each other with a long-term perspective? In the Campus Schools Programme, we are establishing strong and sustainable collaborations at the interface between theory and practice and develop them further together.
Project Description
Participants from educational research, school practice and (initial) teacher training repeatedly report that access to and exchange with the other educational sectors is difficult. In order to improve access and collaboration at the interface between educational sectors, a Campus Schools Programme is to be established in the form of a three-year pilot project.
The programme is directed at educational researchers and academics in teacher training as well as schools in primary and early secondary education who are interested in school development and an exchange with educational research. The Campus Schools Programme includes schools in the Rhine-Main area that are assigned to the following school types:
- (inclusive) primary schools
- secondary schools (vocational and intermediate track)
- comprehensive schools
- schools for children with special needs
Schools and educational scientists contribute equally to the collaboration, so that both the research and the school participants benefit from the collaboration. Participants can be involved at different levels. In line with the needs and wishes of the participants, the Campus Schools Programme jointly develops services for schools and educational scientists. These range from low-threshold services, such as invitations to events and newsletters, to participation in further training courses or joint studies, to support in school development. In terms of content, the collaboration services are assigned to the main components of the Campus Schools Programme:
- networking
- professional growth
- joint research
- consulting
The services will be implemented by the researchers associated with the Campus Schools Programme at the DIPF, the Goethe University and the IDeA Centre. This creates a strong network that connects schools and educational science in the long term.
Project Objectives
The vision of the Campus Schools Programme is to contribute to better educational opportunities and better conditions for pupils in Frankfurt and the surrounding area. In line with the IDeA Centre's focus on "children at risk", the Campus Schools Programme also pays special attention to children with increased educational risks. The programme is therefore particularly aimed at schools that are confronted with heterogeneity and difficult situations.
In the long term, we are aiming for school practice and school development that is more strongly based on scientific evidence. To this end, a centrally coordinated infrastructure will be created that enables close collaborations between educational research, school practice and (initial) teacher training in Frankfurt and the surrounding area. This infrastructure aims to promote a sustainable form of research-practice-partnerships.
A range of services tailored to the needs of the stakeholders is intended to help promote a dialogue between schools and educational research/(initial) teacher training as well as partnership-based cooperation. A further goal is the development of sustainable partnerships between schools and researchers in order to establish scientifically supported school development processes.
